Sustainability in Fitness Manufacturing

Environmental Responsibility · Green Operations · Better Sports

Sustainability is no longer a marketing add-on—it is a core operational priority at Better Sports. As a manufacturer supplying global markets, we recognize our responsibility to reduce environmental impact across materials, energy, waste, and packaging. This article outlines the initiatives we have implemented and the targets we have set for the coming years.

Recycled & Bio-Based Materials

Recycled TPE Yoga Mats

Since 2024, we have offered TPE yoga mats containing 30% post-industrial recycled content. The recycled granules come from our own production trimmings and approved external sources, reducing virgin material demand without compromising performance. We are testing formulations with up to 50% recycled content for a 2026 launch.

Cork & Natural Rubber

Our cork-top yoga mats use FSC-certified cork harvested from renewable bark in Portugal. The natural rubber base is sourced from responsibly managed plantations in Southeast Asia. Both materials are biodegradable at end of life under industrial composting conditions.

Latex-Free Alternatives

To address latex allergies and reduce reliance on natural rubber tapping, we have expanded our TPE and fabric product lines. These alternatives perform comparably to latex while offering broader market accessibility.

Energy & Carbon Footprint

Solar Installation

In late 2024, we installed a 150 kW rooftop solar array covering 40% of our factory roof. The system generates approximately 180,000 kWh annually, offsetting roughly 25% of our daytime electricity consumption. We plan to expand to 300 kW by 2027.

Energy-Efficient Equipment

All new molding and cutting machines purchased since 2023 meet China Grade 1 energy efficiency standards. Variable-frequency drives on motors and LED lighting throughout the facility have reduced per-unit energy consumption by 12% year-over-year.

Waste Reduction

  • Production scrap: Rubber and TPE trimmings are collected, sorted, and re-granulated for reuse in compatible products.
  • Packaging waste: We have eliminated single-use plastic wrap from internal pallets, replacing it with reusable fabric straps.
  • Water recycling: Our cooling water system is closed-loop, with zero discharge to municipal sewers.

Sustainable Packaging

We work with buyers to transition from conventional polybags and blister packs to sustainable alternatives:

  • Kraft paper mailer bags with soy-based ink.
  • Recycled cardboard hangtags and header cards.
  • Compostable PLA windows for product visibility where required.
  • Reduced packaging volume to maximize container cube utilization and lower shipping emissions.

2026 Targets

  1. Increase recycled material content to 40% across all TPE products.
  2. Achieve ISO 14001 environmental management certification.
  3. Reduce factory waste-to-landfill by 50% through improved segregation and recycling partnerships.
  4. Publish our first Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon inventory.
